Events

  • January 1st: Prohibition to publish the official doctrines of the church, formulated by the Syllabus in 1864.
  • March 10th: After the death, in March, of the duke of Morny, half brother of Napoleon III and chairs legislative body, the influence of the empress Eugenie becomes dominating.
  • May 3rd: Beginning of a long visit of Napoleon III in Algeria, during which the Eugenie empress becomes regent.
  • May 11th: Creation of the Stores of Spring. Recognition of the value of the Check.
  • June 21st: The law Duruy institutes a special secondary education, intermediary between the elementary school and the secondary studies traditional.
  • 4 - October 10th: Interview of Biarritz between Napoleon III and Bismarck.
  • December 6th: Treaty of union, signed with Paris, between the France and the principality of Monaco.
