Thursday January 7th: Victor Hugo is elected with the French Academy with the armchair of Népomucène Lemercier with the first turn by 17 votes against 15 with Ancelot.
- January 25th: Lamartine makes a speech against the project Thiers of fortification of Paris.
- January 28th: Léopoldine Hugo goes to his first bal.
- François Buloz hesitates to insert the article of Gobineau over Capo of Istria, in spite of the favorable opinion of Charles de Rémusat. Gobineau discounts that this article will raise criticisms on behalf of the friends of Capo of Istria. The Revue the East of the Scelti seems to take good tournure.

Monday: Law on the fortifications of Paris. The Room votes the project Thiers by 237 votes against 162.
- February 6th: Lamartine is elected president of the Commission of the literary property. He projects to fix this one at fifty years.
- February 22nd: Bugeaud takes indeed possession of its government of Algérie.
- February 25th: Ancelot is elected with the French Academy.
- February 27th: Startup with Grenelle of the first Artesian well, deep of more than 560 meters.

Friday March 19th: Victor Hugo starts to write his Speech of reception in Académie.
- March 22nd: Relative law with the child work employed in manufactures, factories and workshops, first law regulating the business acquaintances: Following the investigation of Villermé, Table of the physical status and moral of the workmen in the silk and wool, cotton factories (1840), the Travail of the children is regulated in industry in France and organizes their protection. Work is interdict for less than 8 years, limited to 8 a.m. per day between 8 and 12 years.
- March 23rd: Beginning of the debates with the Room on the literary property.
- March 26th: Le summary of the Re-examined the East , publication intended to deal with the questions of the Christian East, is ready. Gobineau must make of it the introduction.
- March 29th: The Room rejects the project Lamartine on the literary property by 154 votes against 108.

Saturday April 3rd: Law which assigns a credit of 140 franc million to creation of an enclosure strengthened to protect the capital. Said Thiers, name of the president of the Council of the moment, this enclosure is finished in 1845.
- April 10th: Le project of Revue the East seems to be badly. In fact, it will not appear, not competed with in advance by the Eastern Review of Dr. Barrachin.
- April 15th: La Revue of the Two Worlds publishes finally the article of Gobineau on Capo of Istria. It made the lawsuit of a philhellenism denied there which claims to see in the modern Greeks the heirs and the descendants of the ancient Greeks. Article not deprived of political clearness nor of generosity, where Gobineau sinks against Capo of Istria, regarded as the craftsman of the Russian policy in the East, and is used rather curiously thus the policy as Guizot.

Tuesday May 4th: Alexis de Tocqueville embarks with his/her Hippolyte brother and Gustave de Beaumont with Toulon, in order to accomplish the voyage in Algérie which it had projected for one year. In Algiers, Tocqueville is struck by the bourdonnante activity, the diversity of languages and people which reign in the ville.
- May 5th: Law on the Expropriation due to public utility, essential legal instrument for the policy of town planning.
- May 15th: Départ of Tocqueville of Algiers by sea in company of the general Bugeaud, who left to attack Tagdempt, capital of the emir d' Algérie Abd el-Kader. Tocqueville gains Mostaganem where it meets the general Lamoricière with whom it has been in relation for several years, thanks to the bonds of this officer with Louis de Kergorlay, comrade of promotion. Officer of the Arab offices, Lamoricière, engaged since 1830 in the majority of military operations in Algeria, made the effort know the pays.

Saturday July 10th: Protocol of closure question of Agypet signed in London.
- Tuesday July 13rd: Convention closing the straits (Dardanelles and the Bosphorus) with the warships other than Turks, except in the event of war.
- NdE Rémusat T4 Reports, p 6: " Convention for the fence of the Straits of the Bosphorus and Dardanelles, signed in London on July 13rd, 1841 enters England, Austria, France, Prussia, Russia and Turkey. The preamble referred to the old rule of the Ottoman Empire, according to which the passage of the Straits of Dardanelles and the Bosphorus must always be closed with the war buildings, as long as the Door is in peace; in article v the Door stated its inébranlable resolution to maintain this rule of the closing of the Straits, and the powers began to respect it. The Sultan reserved the right to authorize as in the past, the entry of the light buildings for the service of foreign legations; he would make known of Convention to all the governments with which he was in relation."
- July 17th: Gobineau completed the biography of the Alviane and wrote for the Journal of DEBATEs an article on the question of Candie. It does not have any confidence in the committee legitimist: “That to make these people-there in a business where measurement would have to be brought so much, of prudence, address and firmness? ”
- July 26th: The count de Chambord, claiming legitimist, is victim of a serious accident of horse, which leaves it slightly handicapped left leg.
- July 30th: Answering the wishes of the National guard of Boulogne, Victor Hugo written for the inauguration of a statue of Napoleon in this city: Anthem for the inauguration of Napoleon (included in All the quadrant).
- Turbid with Toulouse aiming at preventing the tax census ordered by the Minister for Finance, Humann in order to reform the plate of the Tax on the doors and windows. Others turbid take place during the summer with Bordeaux, Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Céret, Lille (August), Clermont-Ferrand (September).

- November 11th: The count de Pahlen, ambassador of Russia, leave France not to have to present the wishes of the diplomatic corps to Louis-Philippe Ier (that Nicolas II of Russia challenges more or less dully as king, it would have owed, according to him, being the regent of the duke of Bordeaux). Beginning of a diplomatic estrangement several years with the Russia. It is Casimir Périer, wire, which is person in charge and Ernest de Barante (wire of Prosper?) who is ambassador in title.

- December 20th: L' catholic Union publishes an article of Gobineau, “ Greece since 1833 ”, whose continuation will appear in the same newspaper the 20,26- December 27th, 1841 and January 17th, 1842.
- December 23rd: Alexis de Tocqueville is elected with the French Academy to replace Jean-Girard Lacuée de Cessac, which was minister, of 1810 with 1813, of the administration of the war under the Empire.
- December 27th: Opening of the parliamentary session of 1842.
- Tuesday December 28th: With the Room, Sauzet is re-elected president by 193 votes against 64 with Lamartine.
