Saturday January 6th: Alexis de Tocqueville is elected with the Academy of Science morals and political.
- January 13rd: Vote address by the Room.
- January 21st: Recovery, with the Th3e4atre Fran1cais, of Hernani . Marie Dorval is Dona Ground . Until the February 23rd: twelve representations.
- January 21st: With its residence of the Royal place, Victor Hugo gives a festival in the honor of the duke and duchess of Orleans.
- January 24th: Mrs. de Serre presents Arthur de Gobineau to lady Granville, woman of the ambassador of Great Britain Lord Granville.
- January 26th: Salvandy gives a new strength to the “historical Committee of the monuments and arts”. An important part of the former members remains in place. Other members are named, of which Montalembert, Delaroche, Ary Scheffer, the Baron Taylor, J.J. Amp, Delécluze…

- Thursday March 8th: Recovery, with the Th3e4atre Fran1cais of the part of Hugo, Marion Delorme . Marie Dorval is Marion.
- March 15th: Violent one article of Gustave Board in the Review of the Two Worlds . It tackles the whole of the work of Victor Hugo.
- March 18th: Arthur de Gobineau is presented to Mrs. Dorval who “includes/understands the art in an astonishing way in a woman” and it will see it in Marion Delorme with the Th3e4atre Fran1cais.
- March 19th: Gobineau binds closely with Hercules de Serre, nephew of his protective: Mrs. de Serre presented it to Salvandy, with Mrs. de Rauzan. It is received at Lamartine. Ballanche tasted its article on the poetry Persian, which will appear on September 22nd in Wafer of France.

Saturday June 2nd:
- Arthur de Gobineau meets Pierre Berryer, “owner of the review France and Europe ”, and an article subjects to him on “the literary situation of the East”. Berryer gives him paternal councils.
- Gobineau is delighted by the success of his/her friend the painter Guermann Bohn, from whom it queen of Wurtemberg ordered the portraits of his two daughters juniors.
- June 12th: A beginning with the Th3e4atre Fran1cais: that of Rachel, which plays Camille in Horace of Corneille.
- June 20th: Law on the lunatics and the establishments devoted to the treatment of the mental derangement.
- June 25th: The article of Gobineau “Of the intellectual movement of the East”, approved by Berryer, is published in France and Europe . The same review will publish two others of them the August 25th and the October 10th.

Thursday July 5th: Victor Hugo begins the first version of Ruy Blas .
- July 7th: A law allows the establishment of a railway line between Paris and Dieppe, by Rouen and the Havre.
- July 8th: Victor Hugo undertakes the final version of Ruy Blas .
- July 12th: End of the parliamentary session.
- July 16th: Set fire to Théâtre of the Light comedy street of Chartres (street disappeared between the Place from the Carousel and the Palais Royal), according to Hugo in June 1839. According to Hillairet, the night from July 16th to 17th 1838. The theater of the Light comedy had been founded in 1791 by the knight of Piis and Barré, by the transformation into a theater of the Waux-hall of Winter, room of dance located on part of the grounds of the ex-hotel of Rambouillet, in the street of Chartres-Saint-Honore connecting the place of the Palais Royal to that of the Carousel. This theater having burned in the night from July 16th to 17th 1838, its troop went to play temporarily in the room of the Gymnasium (cf data base of Good-News) while waiting to be able to settle, the May 16th 1840, in old the Théâtre of the Innovations of the place of the Stock Exchange (cf R. Vivienne).
- July 22nd: Official conversion with the Catholicism of Hercules de Serre by the action of Lacordaire.

Friday August 10th: Gobineau is in talks with the Gazette of France for two articles per month and has just written an article for Antoine Eugene Genoud, renovating of the Gazette. It reads George Sand “In the middle of the scribblers without heart and without conscience like Lamartine, the variations of this woman sublimates are still sizeable even by their bona fide. ”
- August 11th: Victor Hugo finishes Ruy Blas .
- August 17th: Victor Hugo installs his family with Auteuil.
- August 18th: Victor Hugo and Juliette Drouet leave for a court travels in Champagne. Claye, Meaux, the Ferté-sous-Jouarre, Montmirail, Vauchamps, Épernay, Châlons-sur-Marne, Holy-Menehould, Clermont-in-Argonne, Varennes, Grandpré, Vouziers, Rheims.
- August 24th: Schedule organization of the municipal Garde of Paris.
- August 28th: Return of Victor Hugo in Paris.

- Louis Napoleon Bonaparte, which remains in Suisse after having spent two months in America, agrees to gain the England.
- Died of Albertine de Broglie, girl of Madam de Staël.
- September 22nd: Article of Gobineau in the Gazette of France on the literature Persian. The same newspaper will publish two others of them, the October 14th and the November 23rd.

- October 11th: Lamartine (speech with the Room): " the past being closed you, you needed an novel idea. One should not you appear, Sirs,… that everyone is tired as us and fears the least movement. The generations which grow behind us are not weary, they want to act and be tired in their turn. Which action did you give them? France is a nation which is bored. "
- October 14th: Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte leaves the Suisse for the England via the Germany.
- October 24th: Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte arrives at London accompanied by seven of his closer faithful, among which Persigny.
- Thursday October 25th: Victor Hugo yields for ten years the property of its work published up to now, i.e. 22 volumes with what two new works are added, the whole accompanied by a right of option for the future books, at the Limited partnership for the exploitation of works of Victor Hugo under company name Duriez and Co”. In exchange, Victor Hugo will receive 300 000 francs of which 180 000 francs will be versed for him the cash, the balance covering four payable successive annual installments starting from 1840. The company is composed of Delloye editor, Duriez manager, commercial paper Cornuau, Blanchet and Kléber manufacturers of papers, Gaillard and Rampin bankers.
