Armenian noble family resulting from Roupen Ier, which settled in Cilicie after the conquest of the Arménie by the Seldjoukide S. It managed to drive out the Byzantines and to create of them a principality, which became kingdom in 1198.
The family died out in 1222 and the throne passed to the rival family of the Héthoumides.
