- March 17th: The Italian scientist Alessandro Volta tests successfully the first Battery.
- March 20th: The Italian scientist Alessandro Volta submits the publication of the invention of the Battery in a French letter to the president of the Royal Society, Joseph Banks.
- May 2nd: The first electrolysis (electrolysis of water) is carried out by two British chemists, (1753 - 1815) and (1768-1842), thanks to the first Battery, a few days after its invention by Alessandro Volta.
- October 19th: the Geographer and the Naturalist leave Le Havre within the framework of the Expédition Baudin.
