January 7th: Benjamin Constant intervenes with the Tribunat, and, in a speech which reveals it like the leader of the opposition, denounces “the mode of constraint and silence” which prepares.
- January 12th: Treaty of Pacification of the West enters the government, represented by Hedouville and the chouans chiefs, represented by of Andigné, Boumont, Kainlis and the Saint-Andrew Rock.

- May 16th ( 26 floréal year VIII ): First general census of the population in France.
- June 14th: Battle Marengo.
- August 13rd: Bonaparte request with Cambacérès to direct a charged commission to compose the Code of the Laws (Civil code French).
- October 19th: the Geographer and the Naturalist leave Le Havre within the framework of the Expédition Baudin.
- November 21st: Foundation of the female religious congregation of the Ladies of the Sacred Heart by Madeleine-Sophie Barat.
- December 3rd: Battle of Hohenlinden.
- December 16th: Treaty of Mortefontaine, convention signed between the France and the the United States finishing the Quasi war.
- December 24th ( 3 nivôse year IX ): Assassination attempt with the “explosive device” against the First Consul Napoleon street Saint-Nicaise with Paris formenté by Georges Cadoudal, supported by the British. The explosion made 22 dead. Initially suspected, the Jacobins are stopped and off-set in mass. The made proof that the attack is the work of royalists, the partisans of the king are stopped.
