17th northern parallel
In Geography, the 17th parallel northern is the parallel uniting the points of the surface of the Ground whose Latitude is equal to 17° Northern.
It gave its name to the line of demarcation established with the Vietnam by the Accords of Geneva in 1954 and separating the Democratic republic from Vietnam in North and the République of Vietnam (in the South). Actually, this border did not coincide with the 17th parallel but was established more in the South, roughly along the river Ben Hai to the village of Bo Ho Known and full west to the border with the Laos. This line of demarcation disappeared in 1976 after the unification from the two States.
