- July 9th: The Academy of Dijon crown the Speech on sciences and arts of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, which will be published in January of the following year.
- Voltaire, which has maintained a correspondence with Frederic II Prussia for several years, goes near him to Berlin. It remains there until in 1753.
- Malesherbes, appointed president of the Court of the assistances and director of the bookstore (1750-1771) contributes to found the Freedom of the press in France.
