The 173rd Airborne Brigade Fights TEAM is the single unit with airborne vocation at the disposal of the United States Army Southern European Task force ( USASETAF or more simply SETAF ), the force of American fast reaction depending on the United States European Command. Positioned in southernmost Europe, it has vocation to intervene in 24 hours anywhere in the world, but its strategic pre-deployment lays out it with the European and African missions.

History
The 173rd Airborne Brigade was setting-up at Okinawa on March 26th, 1963. It takes again the traditions of the 173rd Infantry Brigade of the 87th Infantry Division (1917-1951).It is the first great unit of the US Army with being deployed in the République of Vietnam, since its soldiers unload on the aerodrome of Bien Hoa in May 1965.
The brigade which had upon most extremely of its engagement a manpower of 3.000 members distinguished during 6 years from continuous campaigns during the Guerre from Vietnam by collecting very many individual and collective decorations including 13 Medal off Honor and by deploring the loss from 1.790 from its soldiers.
The 173rd Airborne Brigade is dissolved on January 14th, 1972 with Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
The 173rd Airborne Brigade is reformed on June 12th, 2000 in Caserma Elderme, Vicence, in the north of the Italy, in order to equip the United States Army in Europe ( USAREUR ) with a fast force of reaction and an airborne capacity.
It took part in the Guerre in Iraq starting from March 26th, 2003 by parachuting in mass with the Kurdistan to fix the Iraqi forces by creating a second face.
The operation was done in two waves, 954 soldiers sautérent the March 26th on Harir Airfl then 200 others on March 27th on Harsr. It is necessary specified that the zone were under control of the Kurdish combined of the United States.
It remained with Kirkuk until February 2004. The losses were of 9 men at the time of this operation
In 2004/2005, it accomplished a stay in Afghanistan to fight the Talibans or it lost 17 soldiers.
It takes its current name at the time of a ceremony the September 15th 2006 following a great reorganization.
It will again be deployed in Iraq in summer 2007.
