170e regiment of infantry of line

The 170e Régiment of Infanterie (or 170e IH) is a regiment of the French Army.

Creation and various denominations

  • 1913 : 170e Regiment of Infantry
  • 1914 : At the mobilization, it sets up its regiment of reserve, the 370 {{E}} Régiment of Infantry
  • 1994 : Becomes, on May 1st, the ''' 1 {{er}} Régiment of Riflemen '''

There does not exist, before 1912, of regiment having carried this number.

First World War

In 1914; Quartering: Epinal

Affected regiment with the defense of the fortress of Epinal

With 48e DI from Feb. 1915 with déc.1916 then with 167e DI until Nov. 1918

1914

  • Operations of Alsace: Mulhouse (August 13rd)
  • Rest in Meuse: Couzances-with-wood - Ménil-with-Wood (October 16th at November 4th)

1915

  • Champagne: Coast 196 (at the beginning of March), Mesnil-les-Hurlus - Wood Yellow Flaring (March 13rd)
  • Meuse: Eparges (at the end of April - at the beginning of May)
  • Artois: Notre Dame de Lorette (May), Angres and Vingré (June at September)
  • Champagne: Souain, Nap-Py (September 28th at November 23rd)

1916

  • Battle of Verdun: Eix, Douaumont (February 25th), Wood of the Petrel, Thiaumont (April 27th)
  • Battle of the Sum: firm of Monacu (July) Cléry on Somme, wood of the Cartons (Oct.-Nov.)

1917

  • Aisne : Loivres, wood of Séchamp

1918

From 1945 to our days

May June 1968 for the events: temporarily leave Golbey for the camp of Sensitive to the cold of the 5 {{E}} Régiment of Infantry stationed to Beyne (78) for a possible intervention in the capital, then with Fontainebleau for the 1st company.
Devient on May 1st, 1994 the 1 {{er}} Régiment of Riflemen in homage to the Nord-africains soldiers and more particularly to the 7 {{E}} RTA.
