1707 with the theater
Events
In the fight which opposes them to the privilege granted to the
Comédie-Française to represent spectacles of theater with
Paris, the Théâtres of Fair which have prohibition to dialog on scene have recourse to the
Monolog S: “
i.e. only one Actor parloit, & that the others faisoient signs & demonstration ” says Mr. Parfaict in his
Mémoires to be used with the history of the spectacles as fair , in
1743. The Cailly Police chief brings back as for him at the time, in 1707, “
that almost with all the scênes, the Actor who avoit spoken retiroit in the slide, & revenoit in the moment on the theater, where the Actor who étoit remained parloit in his turn, & formed a species of Dialog thus. That the same Actors parloient themselves & répondoient in the slides: & that other times the Actor répétoit very high what his/her Comrade avoit says to him low ”.
