America

Africa

  • March 8th, Ethiopia:
    • Beginning of the reign of Takla Haïmanot, Négus of Ethiopia (fine in 1708).
    • the négus Iyasou Large the must abdicate in front of the intrigues of his/her son Takla Haïmanot. It is withdrawn in a monastery on an island of the Lac Tanned but his/her son makes it assassinate a few months later. Ethiopia sinks in anarchy.
  • July 1st: To the Congo, the priestess Beatrice (Kimpa Vita), made captive, is condemned to died and is burned for heresy.

Asia

  • November 15th: The 6th dalaï LAMA Tsangyang Gyatso, invited in China, dies at the time of its voyage. He would have been shown of imposture and is exiled. Mongolian Qoshot, supported by the emperor Kangxi occupies the central Tibet then. A civil war develops with the Tibet to which the China will put an end (1720).
  • the khan of the Oïrat Tchewang Rabden crosses the area of the Kokonor and occupies the Tibet.

India

  • the Marathes devastate the Gujerat. Badora is put at bag. An army marathe, which attacks the imperial camp with Ahmadnagar (May) is pushed back with difficulties.
  • Boureau-Deslande, the son-in-law of François Martin, founds a French counter with Chandernagor.
  • Put in liquidation, the French Compagnie of the Eastern Indies is taken again by a group of ship-owners of Saint-Malo.

Europe

  • December 9th: Beginning of the reign of the king Jean V of Portugal ( Joao V ) (fine in 1750). It founds an absolutist mode, on the model of that of Louis XIV. The gold of the Brésil, of which it perceives the fifth, gives him the means of them. It obtains the Holy See the title of patriarch for the Very-Faithful bishop of Lisbon and that of for him.

  • Attempts at general offensive of Louis XIV.
  • January 6th: The French of the duke of Berwick take Nice with the States of Savoy after a one month old seat. The castle of the city will be destroyed.

  • May 14th: Head office of Turin
  • May 23rd: Conquest of the Belgium by John Churchill on behalf of the archduke Charles. Divert French Villeroy at the time of the Bataille of Ramillies. The French must evacuate most of the occupied territories in the Netherlands.
  • August 3rd: Berwick, with the favor of a popular rising, dislodges the allies of Madrid then of Castille.
  • September 7th: Eugene of Savoy demolishes the Spanish French, and the Bavarois with the head office of Turin. As of the advertisement of this reverse, Louis XIV orders (too quickly) the withdrawal of its troops of Italy and tries to negotiate a peace, without success.
  • November - December: French and Spaniards are driven out of Modena and Guastala. The Spain loses its Italian possessions.

France

  • September: Early grape harvest in the North of France.
  • November: Edict which allots the nobility to the aldermen of Paris.
  • December 31st: This year is remembered by an intense military activity and one notes the production in twelve months of 13  445 “minutes” (orders, reports/ratios, directives…) emanating from the secretariat of the French War. It is the record of the kind which does not prevent year 1706 from being catastrophic from a military point of view.
