- April: War against the chief of the Indians Wampanoag, Metacom (known as king Philippe), on southern bank of bay of the Massachusetts. The English, victorious, lose six hundred men and three thousand Indians are massacred, of which Metacom itself (August 12th). The defeat of the Indians in New England gives to the European colonists the control of the North-American coast.
- May 5th: The Dutchmen of the Admiral Synkes take Cayenne.
- June: Beginning of the Revolt of Nathaniel Bacon in Virginia.
- December 18th: The admiral D' Estrée takes again Cayenne with the Dutchmen.

Europe
- January 8th: The French Abraham Duquesne is victorious of the Dutch admiral De Ruyter close to the islands Lipari.
- January 29th: Beginning of the reign of the tsar Fédor III of Russia (end in 1682).
- With died of Alexis Ier poses the problem of the succession: it had two wire of Marie Miloslavski (Fédor and Ivan) and a son of Natalia Narychkina, Pierre. Two clans create, one dominated by Sophia Alexeievna, sister elder of Fédor and Ivan, and that of the Narychkine leads by the tsarina Nathalie. - September 25th - October 14th: Victoire of Jean Sobieski on the Turks with Zurawno in Ukraine. It imposes the restitution of part of the Ukraine on the Poland.
- September 21st: Beginning of the Innocent Pontificate of XI (fine in 1689).
- October 17th: Turkey recovers the Podolie on the Poland with the treaty of Jouravna.
- December 4th: The Swedish beat the Danish with the Bataille of Lund.
- December 14th: Léopold I {{er}} wife Eléonore de Palatinat-Neubourg.

- France supports the Hungarian rebellion. The count Imre Thököly (1657 - 1705) takes the head of the insurrection, and constitutes an army of kurutz (of Latin cruciatus , cross), noble Protestants revolted against the Habsbourg, soldiers of the dismissed borders and peasants. He organizes an Eastern principality as Slovakia and gains a series of victories over the forces of the emperor Léopold I {{er}}.

France
- Period of spring and dry and hot summers (1676 - 1686). Early grape harvest.
- February 5th: Amnesties with revolted Breton.
