- May 24th: The Belgian (of Walloon origin) Pierre Minuit buys the island of Manhattan to the Indien S Manhattes - for the equivalent of 60 guilders, that is to say 24 $US -, and founds the New Amsterdam, renamed New York in 1664.

- July: Gustave II Adolphe of Sweden invades Eastern Prussia and blocks Dantzig. The Poles gain a naval victory with Oliva, close to Danzig (1627), while the Swedes are victorious with Gorzno, in the east of Thorn.
- August 26th: The catholic army of Tilly crushes the Danes led by Christian IV to the Bataille To fight. The Danish troops are pushed back in Jutland.
- 22 - September 30th: Gustave II Adolphe of Sweden is victorious of the Poles. He seeks to be combined in Russia against Poland.

- July 31st: Declaration of Nantes ordering to shave all the fortresses and walls of cities which are not placed on the borders. Richelieu orders the destruction of the castle-forts and subdue the noble ones.
- June 1st: Michel de Marillac becomes Minister of Justice (fine in 1630).
- August 19th: Henri de Talleyrand, count de Chalais, is decapitated with Nantes by an impromptu torturer. Pushed by its mistress the Duchess of Chevreuse and Gaston of Orleans, he had conspired against Richelieu. The duchess wanted to prevent the weddings of Gaston of Orleans to leave him the possibility of marrying Anne of Austria in the event of death of the king.
