150 Y

The ''' Decapod ''' of the series of the 150 Y were locomotive with vapor of German origin where they appeared in 1942 for the needs for the war and were registered Br 52 . They were the simplified copy of Br 50 (future 1 - 150 Z ) and were characterized by the absence from copper metals. They was machines designed to tow the military convoys in all the Europe of type KDL 1: KriegsDampfLokomotive typ 1 (standard Engine of war 1). It is also about most important, numerically, series built in the world. It is difficult to know the exact number of these engines built during this disturbed period, one can estimate it at more than 6300 units!

At the end of the war one will find these engines dispersed through 16 country. For its part the SNCF recovered 42 machines including 17 in construction in the factory of Graffenstaden which was incorporated in the park while being registered 1-150 Y 1 to 17 and 25 machines remained except inventory registered 1-150 Y numbers: 123,244,1306,1593,1637,1657,1673,1677,1678,1993,3125,3149,3483,3536,3595,3697,3811,5687,6178,6848,6982,7283,7444,7601 and 7604 . Just as the 1-150 Z , they remained confined with the Alsace.

These Decapod had a motor two cylinders with simple expansion and the distribution was of the type “Walschaert”. The hearth was a hearth of the type “Crampton”. The exhaust was fixed of “German” type. The bogie-bissel of the type “Krauss Helmoltz” had a side displacement of approximately 15 mm for the driving Essieu and of approximately 125 mm for the carrying Essieu. They were provided for certain with screens scented suspended with type “Whitte”. Relatively rare thing, they had a cabin closed with a large pad out of rubber to ensure the passage on the tender. The load on the driving axles reached only 16 T like the 1-150 Z .

Their deposits was Hausbergen, Ile Napoleon, Sarreguemines, Sarrebourg, Thionville and Mulhouse-North. The series was deadened for on April 7th 1959 with the 1-150 Y 5,9,16 and 3536 like last representing.

The tenders which theirs were coupled were of three different types:

  • is tenders with bogies without frame, and semi-cylindrical case (" tender baignoire") containing 32 m ³ water and 9,4 T of coal registered 1-32 Y numbers between 847 and 20437 . On these tenders, the rigidity of sheet of the case curved in half-circle acts as frame, the cross-pieces of shocks and the pivots of the bogies directly being welded below!
  • either of the tenders with four rigid axles (very rare) containing 30 m ³ water and 8 T of coal registered 1-30 Y numbers between 244 and 6178
  • or the tender with bogies containing 13 m ³ water and 9 T of coal registered 1-13 D 1993 and which carried an apparatus of condensation consisted three large ventilators. These tenders was planned for the arid regions and conferred on the machines an autonomy of 1000 km!

These engines which in the beginning had been designed with the economy for the needs for the war, carried out a remarkable career, enclosing the era of traction vapor to normal way in Europe, in particular in Poland.

By a curious return of the things, five engines of type KDL 1 present in France, are again acquired abroad by tourist railroads: three on the CFT of Coni' Iron in the Doubs, one on the CFT of the Valley of Aa in the Pas-de-Calais, and another stored with the old cold stores of 91 quai Panhard and Levassor, in the 13th district of Paris!
