Its history
The 14th USAAF is an air force of USAAF during the Second world war. It operates on CBI (China Burma India Theater off Operations), i.e. the theater of operation of China, Burma and India. At the origin of this air force, one finds AVG (American Volunteer Group) , group of the American volunteers of the general Claire Chennault. This one, in cold with its hierarchy, had decided to withdraw active service. It had then recruited American aviators to train the pilots of Tchang Kaï-chek in China. Famous the flying Tigers of 23rd FG, equipped in the beginning with P-40, is thus at the origin of this air force, from where its badge.When the the United States enter in war, following the Attaque on Pearl Harbor, it is the 10th USAAF which is created to operate on CBI.
It is necessary to wait on March 5th 1943 so that 14th USAAF is officially made up. It enters in active service as of on March 10th. It operates then primarily on the Chinese territory, the 10th USAAF being centred on the Burma and the India. With the end of the year 1945, 14th USAAF is decontaminated.
Its missions
The missions of 14th USAAF are in turn strategic and Tactique S. Indeed, contrary to the European face on which one finds air forces specialized (8th USAAF and 15th USAAF like strategic forces, 9th USAAF and 12th USAAF like tactical forces), here, 14th USAAF plays this double part.Certain missions are thus strategic (bombardment of fuel depots, factories, ports, aerodromes…) and others are tactical (bombardment of a bridge to prevent the arrival of reinforcements, enemy corrosions of troops…).
