14th Panzerdivision

The 14th Panzerdivision is one of the armor-plated division S of the German army (Wehrmacht) during the Second world war.

Creation

History of division

The 4th Infantry Division was created in October 1934 with Dresden. It took share with the Campagne of Poland in 1939, then with the Campagne of France in 1940. In August of the same year, division is reorganized like the 14th Panzezdivision , and takes its armor-plated 36e Panzer Regiment of the 4th Panzerdivision.

In April 1941, it takes part in the invasion of Balkans and in June 1941 of Russia (Opération Barbarossa), then with the engagements in the battles of Kiev, Rostov and the pocket of Cherniggovka.
It joined in November 1942 the 6th Army with Stalingrad and is destroyed in February 1943.

The dvision is reconstituted in Brittany from April at November 1943, then sets out again for the face of the East where it is committed on the Dniepr in December. It fights in the area of Kirovograd, Kishinev and Jassy until June 1944. Then it leaves in retirement to Ukraine to rearm itself and takes part in October in the combat of the pocket of Courlande where it is encircled (part of division is evacuated by sea in Germany) then takes part in defensive actions in the area of Libau where it goes to the Red Army in May 1945.
