Africa

  • Died of the last Ethiopian bishop. Zara Yacoub having made imprison the envoy of the sultan Mameluke, the Egyptian sovereign in reprisals had made coil blow the patriarch of Alexandria and had prevented from naming the bishops in Ethiopia. Ethiopia is unable itself to have new priests until in 1480.

Europe

  • In February, a catastrophic flood recovers the valley of the the Loire in Anjou.

  • June 27th: Died of Alphonse V of Aragon.

    • Beginning of the reign of Jean II (1398 - 1479), king of Aragon.
    • Beginning of the reign of Ferdinand Ier or Shoeing (1423 - 1494), king of Naples (fine in 1494). It continues the work of restoration undertaken by his father. It must push back an attempt at invasion of Rene of Anjou.
  • August 28th: The duke of Alençon is judged by the court of Paris and is condemned to death; the execution of the sentence is differed by royal order and it is locked up with the castle of Loches. The duchy of Alençon is annexed to the royal field.

Central Europe & Balkans

  • January 24th: Mathias Ier Corvin, wire junior by Jean Hunyadi is elected king of Hungary by the tycoons (Magyar minor nobility) at the 17 years age in spite of the strong opposition of the partisans of the emperor Frederic III (fine in 1490). It sets up several great administrative reforms and judicaires, created an army and develops the nation on the commercial plan and cultural.
  • February 20th: Died without heirs ready to reign of the Serb despot Georges Brankovic.
    • the voièvode of Transylvania Mihály Szilágyi projects a new crusade against the Turks to attach the remainders of the despotat to the Hungary, in particular Belgrade and Semendria (Smederevo). Furious of this initiative, Mathias Corvin dislocates his uncle of his functions of governor of Hungary (June).

Mahmoud Pasha walks on the Danube and occupies the majority of the still free Serb fortresses but saving Semendria (August) and is folded up on Kosovo. It would have been pushed back by the Wallachians with Turnu Severin after having passed the the Danube.
  • March 2nd: Georges de Poděbrady, chief of the utraquists, is elected king of Bohemia (fine in 1471). It starts negotiations with the Holy See. The intransigent pope dispossesses it of his kingdom and fact call to Mathias Corvin of Hungary (1465).
  • June: Mathias Corvin decides to marry Catherine, the girl of Georges de Poděbrady, rather than that of palatine the Garai, one of the assassins of his brother. He dislocates this last of his functions as well as the other barons of his clan and even his own uncle Szilágyi. This one joined the conspiracy of the clan Parked-Ujlaki (July 26th), a score of baron which elects king de Hongrie the emperor Frederic III (February 17th 1459).
