- February 27th: Beginning of the reign of Vassili II the Blind man (1415-1462) large prince of Moscow. Vitovt of Lithuania becomes its tutor and defends it against the claims of Georges de Galitch, brother of Vassili Ier.

- December 9th: Foundation of the the University of Louvain in the the Brabant by the pope Martin V.

- the brothers Van Eyck develop the technique oil-base paint.
- With died of Jean III of Bavaria in January, Jan van Eyck enters to the service of the Duc of Burgundy. Official painter and manservant, it is in charge of several missions in England, perhaps with Prague and in Italy but certainly in Spain (1426 - 1427) and with the Portugal, (1429) from where it dispatches with the duke the portrait of the princess Isabelle, its future wife.
