137e regiment of infantry of line
The 137e Régiment of Infanterie of line (or 137e IH) is a regiment made up under the First Empire. It was distinguished in Germany (1813) and during the First World War.
Creation and various denominations
- 1813 : Creation of the 137e Regiment of Infantry of Line to take part in the countryside of Germany, made up of the following units:
- 1814: Dissolution
- 1870 - 1871: Temporary re-creation for the Franco-German War of 1870
- 1873: Re-creation
- 1914: To the mobilization, it gives rise to the 337 {{E}} Régiment of Infantry
- 1940: Disappearance
- 1944: Re-creation
- March 6th 1946: Final dissolution.

Revolution and Empire
Constituted for the countryside of Germany the regiment is distinguished with Lutzen and Bautzen. In 1814, it is useful in Italy.Colonels killed or wounded by ordering the regiment for this period

Second Empire
The regiment is recreated for the Franco-German Guerre of 1870 and takes part in the defense of Paris during its seat.
From 1871 to 1914
Reconstituted in 1873 the regiment takes part in the countryside of Tunisia (1881 - 1883).First World War
In 1914, the regiment is in garrison with Fontenay-the-Count and its recruits come mainly from the Vendée and Loire-Inférieure. It is distinguished particularly during the conflict.- the August 27th 1914: Two men of the regiment remove a flag with the enemy with Bulson in the Ardennes.
- June 11th 1916: The death of 57 men of the regiment gives place to the legend of the Tranchée Bayonets
Inter-war period
As from 1928 it is in garrison with Quimper.Second world war
In May 1940 the regiment raised of the 21e division of infantry (brigadier general Lanquetot, division of active north-eastern type) the regiment disappears with the rout.The regiment is recreated in 1944 and takes part in the Release.
From 1945 to our days
The military Center of professional training, based with Fontenay-the-Count, in the Vendée, is the guard of the traditions and the Drapeau of the regiment. During the Guerre of Algeria the second battalion was reformed and sent to Berrouaghia where it was replaced in May 1957 by the 7°RA. It is then moved in Kabylie. The PC was with Blessed-Amran, 4° Co in the south of this village, 3° Co in Bou hadadda, the 2° at the western entry of the throats of Palestro (at the station) and the 1° with Tizi-Ouzou. This battalion, in the beginning made up of recalled often Breton, will be renewed with the wire of arrived of called. It will return in metropolis in 1962 to be dissolved.
