12th Armor-plated regiment of Canada
The 12th Regiment armor-plated of Canada is a regiment armor-plated of the militia of the Canadian Armed forces, based with Three-Rivers, Quebec. It is related with the 12th armor-plated Regiment of Canada of the regular Force, based with Valcartier.
History of the name
- on March 24th, 1871, four rural companies (Three-Rivers, Louiseville, Berthier and Saint-Gabriel-of-Torch) is gathered in a battalion under the name of " Three Rivers Provisional Battalion off Infantry".
- the Unit becomes on June 4th the " 86th Three Rivers Battalion off Infantry".
- on May 8th, 1900, the Unit of militia trifluvienne obtains its statute of regiment under the name of " 86th Three Rivers Regiment".
- During the Great War, the regiment is not mobilized, but it contributes to the mobilization of the 178e Bataillon Canadian-French.
- Reorganized in " The Three Rivers Regiment" April 1st, 1920, it takes the honor of battle of the 178e Bataillon on August 15th, 1921.
- Between the two wars, one decreases the number of units of infantrie and one creates units armor-plated. The regiment becomes on December 15th, 1936 " The Three Rivers Regiment (Tank) ".
- At the beginning of the Second world war, with other armor-plated units, " The Three Rivers Regiment (Tank) " create the First Canadian armor-plated brigade. The name of the regiment becomes " 12th Army Tank Battalion, The Three Rivers Regiment (Tank) ".
- on May 15th, 1942, the Unit becomes the " 12th Canadian Army Tank TRR" Regiment;.
- on August 26th, 1943, the Unit becomes the " 12th Canadian Armoured Regiment (TRR) "
- on April 1st, 1946, the Unit is redésignée anti-tank regiment and takes the name of " 46th Anti-tank Regiment, The Three Rivers Regiment".
- on June 19th, 1947, the Unit trifluvienne takes again its title of armor-plated unit of pre-war period under the name of " 24th Canadian Armoured Regiment, The Three Rivers Regiment".
- on February 4th, 1949, the Regiment adopts its French name " The Regiment of Three-Rivers, 24th Canadian Armoured Regiment".
- on May 19th, 1958, its name is again modified in that of " The Regiment of Three-Rivers, RCAC".
- Following the unification of all the Canadian Armed forces, one forms on May 6th, 1968 a new regiment of the regular Force related to the Regiment of Three-Rivers: the 12th armor-plated Regiment of Canada. This new regiment adopts the habits and traditions of the 12th Canadian Armor Regiment (TRR) and perpetuates the honors of battle of the 12th BECAUSE and thus of the 178e Bataillon Canadian-French.
