Asia
- the Mongolian general Bayan enters Hangzhou, the capital Song. The court flees with Guangdong. The young emperor and his mother are sent in Buddhist convents.
- La falls of Hangzhou mark a capital stage of the history of China. For the first time the Chinese empire was joined together under foreign domination. Moreover Chinese space of this fact itself was joined together with a unit much more important, the Mongolian empire, whose limits went from the Manchuria to Russia, of canton with Basrah.
- La Chinese company very whole is upset. The population is divided officially into four units. Mongolian occupies the first place and is privileged in all things. Then the people non-Han come from Central Asia, of which Ouïgours, having certain advantages. Then one finds the Chinese of north who depended before on Jin, finally the Chinese of the south who depended on vexatious Song.
- Ce classification is omnipresent, that it is in particular in the administration, the army, in the right. - Four popes reigned this year:
- Gregoire X until the January 10th,
- Innocent V of the January 21st to the June 22nd,
- Adrien V of the July 11th to the August 18th,
- Jean XXI starting from the September 8th (fine in 1277)
- One can even consider a fifth of it: the cardinal Guglielmo Visconti, dead the September 6th according to certain sources would have been elected pope the day before under the name of Gregoire XI, but it is not retained by the lists of popes.

- Beginning of the reign of Pierre III of Aragon (until in 1285).
- Beginning of the reign of Jacques II of Majorque
- Creation of the Kingdom of Majorque (Balearic Islands, Roussillon, Cerdagne, Montpellier) with Perpignan for capital.
- Between 1276 and 1285, from the Juifs Séfarades obtain high loads in Aragon: Jeuda of Caballeria is governor of Saragossa and of Valence, Benvenist of Caballeria is collecting customs of the kingdom of Aragon, Mossé de Portella is bayle of Morella, Peniscola, Sagonte, Ségorbe and Tarazona, Mossé Al-Constantini is bayle of Saragossa then of Valence in 1280-1282.

- June: Rodolphe Ier de Habsbourg and its allies puts the seat in front of Vienna.
- the November 26th, Ottokar II of Bohemia yields the Austria, the Styrie, the Carinthie and the Carniole with the emperor increasing considerably the power of the Habsbourg. Ottokar preserves only the Bohemia and the Moravie.
Russia
- January: Beginning of the reign of Dimitri Alexandrovitch de Pérïaslav, large-prince of Vladimir (fine in 1281)
- Daniel Nevski becomes large prince of Moscow (fine in 1303). It doubles the extent of the principality.

- Raymond Lulle ( Ramon Llull ) founds the college of Miramar for the study of Arabic and the training of missionaries in Moslem countries.
- Jean de Meung publishes the second part of the “Romance of the Rose ”.
