Events

Asia

  • Ariq-bögè requires more and more tribute of the Khanat de Djaghataï to finance its fight against his/her brother Kubilai Khan. The khan of Djaghataï Alghu, which has enough of it, makes carry out the collectors of Ariq-bögè lines up at the sides of Kubilai to the end of the year. Ariq-bögè is constrained to make the war on two faces.
  • Alghu gains some victories against its old ally, but is obliged later to yield ground and to fold up itself on Samarkand (1262 - 1263). Ariq-bögè, carried by anger, starts to massacre the population, so that its troops join in Alghu, and than it is constrained to ask him peace.
  • the khan of the Horde of Gold, Berké, which lined up side of Ariq-bögè against Kubilai, enters in war with the djaghataïde Alghu (1262 - 1265). After its failure, it loses the Khârezm, Otrar and the territories in the east of the Aral.

The Middle East

  • Mosul is plundered by the Mongolian .
  • the khan of the Horde of Gold Berké, Moslem, concluded an alliance with the sultan Mameluke Baybars, of origin Kiptchak, and declares the war with Houlagou Khan.

  • In November, Houlagou launches an offensive against Berké. It crosses the passage of Derbent but is beaten by Nogaï on the edges of the Terek and must be withdrawn in Azerbaïdjan. Threatened the east by the Djaghataïdes, then combined of Berké, Houlagou gives up the conquest of the Syria and the Egypt.
