In September 2001, the Renfe places order to the CAF/Alstom consortium of 12 quadruple motorized oars to variable spacing for the sum of 115,5 million euros. They are intended for services on the line AVE Madrid - Barcelona with terminus on junctions still exploited in broad way
Design
Initially intended for the Unidad de Negocio de Grandes Lineas, the series has the effect of being gone up on bogies
FACED (
Bogie of Rodadura de Ancho Variable Autopropulsado ) of 2800 mm footing developed by the CIF, which enable them as well to circulate on broad way as on normal way.
The unit is made of four cases, all assembled on driving bogies, with a driver's cab on each end. The total of 238 places is divided into 81 places Preferentes, 156 places classifies Turista, and a place for anybody with reduced mobility. A Cafeteria is installed in the second case. The access doors are located in medium of case, which separates them in two compartments in order to avoid the feeling being locked up in a tube. The comfort level is the same one as on the
AVE. Each element is equipped with four pantographs (two for each type of current). The extreme elements are equipped with the coupler Scharfenberg making it possible to carry out double compositions. These railcars are equipped with a mixed electric brake (rheostatic and with recovery) authorizing a stopping distance of one kilometer to 100 km/h, two kilometers to 220 km/h, and of 2,7 kilometers to the maximum speed of 250 km/h.
This material is a certain success with export: at the end of 2006, TCDD ordered 10 oars identical to CIF for the line at high speed
Ankara -
Istanbul.
Service
The contract stipulates the delivery of the first element for the end 2003, with then a monthly rate of two elements per month, the remainder having to be delivered to the autumn 2004.
