The Middle East
- Saladin, with reduced forces, attacks the principalities of north: a sicilian fleet prevents it from besieging Tripoli, but Antioche, encircled, concludes a truce from eight month. The cross establishments are reduced to Tyr and Beaufort for the kingdom of Jerusalem, and in North with Tripoli, the Krak of the Knights, Antioche and the Forteresse of Margat.
- July: Saladin gives in freedom Guy de Lusignan, after him to have made solemnly swear not to take the weapons against the Moslems more.

- Strong dryness in France which causes many fires (Tours, Chartres, Beauvais, Auxerre, Troyes).
- January 13rd: At the beginning of the 3 {{E}} crusade with Gisors, in Normandy, Philippe II Auguste, Henri II of England and the count de Flandre agree to distinguish their men by colors. - August 22nd: Beginning of the reign of Alphonse IX (1166 - 1230) king of León.
- September 21st: Two marshal-shoeing, Albacore of Beuvry and Gautier de Béthune, worrying about the dramatic situation of the inhabitants, decide to create a Charité (Brotherhood). It is the origin of the Confrérie of Charitable of Saint-Éloi, who continues his activities with Béthune nowadays.
