The Middle East
- Saladin proclaims the holy war against the Francs with the beginning of the year.
- May 1st: Victoire de Saladin on Templiers and the Hospital ones with the Battle of CRESSON, close to Nazareth.
- June 24th: Bataille of Oumra in the Tunisian desert enters Almohades and the Almoravides rebels.
- 3 - July 4th: Saladin demolishes the Christians led by Guy de Lusignan to the Bataille of Hattin. Almost all the franque knighthood is killed or captured. Saladin makes main in a few weeks of the Christian States except for some coastal places isolated from/to each other (Tyr, Tripoli, Antioche and its port, like three isolated citadels).
- July 29th: capitulation of Saïda.
- September 4th: Catch of Ascalon.
- October 2nd: Saladin takes Jerusalem, after 88 years of reign of the Crusaders. No Christian is worried. If the Francs must pay a ransom to leave the city, they can sell or carry their goods. Tens of thousands of them can be cut off in Tyr.
- October 29th: The pope Gregoire VIII fulminates the bubble Audita tremendi which calls with the Third crusade. The legate Henri d' Albano and Guillaume, archbishop of Tyr, preach the Third crusade.

November: Saladin puts the seat in front of Tyr defended by Conrad de Montferrat. It must raise the seat for lack of money.

- October 21st - December 17th: Pontificate of Gregoire VIII.
- December 19th: Beginning of the Pontificate of Clement III (fine in 1191).
- Clément III is elected pope with Pisa then pacifies Rome and makes recognize its authority on the senate. It concluded peace with Frederic Barberousse and calls with the Third crusade.

- Philippe Auguste seizes the Berry (fine in 1188).
- Creation about the Knights Teutoniques with Bremen and Lübeck by the duke Frederic de Souabe on the model of the Templiers. The order launches forwardings with an aim of extending the German presence to the gulf of Finland.
- Of the Finnish pirates destroys the commercial city of Sigtuna on the Lac Mälar (Sweden).
- In England, coding of the laws undertaken by Ranulf Glanvill (fine in 1189), which reinforces the monarchical authority in the criminal jurisdiction and the determination of the land rights of the free men.

- In Russia, Vladimir Iaroslavitch becomes prince of Galitch (fine in 1197).
- With died of Iaroslav Osmomyls, the future André II of Hungary tries to seize the Galicie.
