117e regiment of infantry of line

The 117e Régiment of Infanterie of line (or 117e IH) is a regiment which was made up under the French revolution.

The courage of a Officer and his battalion

In the night of the 4 to the 5 June 1940, the German artillery rams the French positions. The attack of the German armoured tanks begins at dawn of June 5th, the 117e IH, which does not profit from the protection of any natural anti-tank obstacle, supports almost all the weight of the centered attack Belloy, Estrées, Berny, Pressoir and Caulnes. As of 3  h  30, after a redoubling of the shootings of artillery, the 117e sees arriving on him of the waves of assault of three armor-plated divisions of which a reserve. The tanks bombard, mitraillent. Between two waves of tanks, the stukas launch their bombs in piqué. The fulcrums and the centers of resistance are neutralized one by one, after the destruction of the edges of the villages by incendiary bomb. From 1945 to 1994

  • the 3rd battalion of the 117e is created on January 16th 1945 with Poitiers with the elements of the regiment of the F.F.I of Bir-Hakeim formed at the beginning of September 1944 with Angouleme and which fought German in the north of the pocket of Rochefort in October 1944. Meanwhile, these elements had temporarily taken the denomination of 1e battalion of the 107 {{E}} R.I, on October 7th, 1944 then of 3rd battalion of the 80 {{E}} R.I the 1e January 1945.
