The Middle East
- January 10th: Beginning of the reign of Amaury I {{er}}, king of Jerusalem (fine in 1174).
- Qılıj Arslan II, sultan saljûqide of Rum recognizes vassal Basileus.
- December: The Vizier Chawer seizes the capacity to the Cairo. On the fifteen leaders who preceded it, fourteen died of violent death, hung, decapitated, stabbed, crucifiés, poisoned or lynched by crowd. One was killed by his/her adoptive son, the other by his/her own father. As of its accession with the capacity, Chawer makes massacre its predecessor and all his family, and adapts their goods.
Europe
- March 26th: Frederic Barberousse makes shave Milan.
- Frederic Barberousse claims the restoration of a kingly central capacity at the time of a ceremony with Roncaglia. Milan, most powerful of the cities lombardes, revolts. It is completely destroyed by Frederic Barberousse. The emperor receives the support of the enemy cities of Milan in the confrontation, which hope to get rid of a rival and to obtain exemptions of taxes and privileges sometimes exorbitant. The imperial authority is restored at the price of a tax pressure and administrative enormous on the other communes (obligatory confiscations, taxes, work, taken hostages for “good behavior”). Imperial podestats are named, as with Plaisance in 1162 - 1164.
- Genoa obtains the right to choose its own consuls, the full powerss in the administration of justice and the decisions concerning the war, peace and alliances. It is exempted imperial taxes.
- May 31st - July 15th: Reign of Etienne III (1147 - 1172), king of Hungary.
- June 3rd: Thomas Becket is named Archevêque Canterbury in England. He resigns of the chancellery immediately after his dedication and its relations with the king are degraded.
- July 15th: Beginning of the reign of Ladislas II of Hungary (fine the January 14th 1163).
- October: Reign of Alphonse II Raimond Pure the (1152 - 1196), king of Aragon.
- the Pisans and the Vénitiens plunder the new district génois with Constantinople.
