114e regiment of infantry of line

The 114e regiment of infantry of line is a regiment of the French Army, whose existence was marked by several dissolutions and re-creations with the wire of the wars. It glorieusement took part in the actions of the Revolution, the Empire and the Republic during the last world wars, in France and beyond its borders.

Creation and various denominations

It does not go down from a regiment of the Old Mode.
  • 1795 : The 114eRégiment of Infantry of Line is created the 4 floréal, year III (April 23rd, 1795), under the name of 114eDemi-brigade , starting from the 2nd battalion of the 57 {{E}} IH and of 10th and 14th battalions of the Volunteers of the Gironde.
  • 1808 : August 3rd, re-creation of a 114e Regiment of Infantry , formed of the 1 {{er}} and 2 {{E}} Regiments Provisional of Infantry, themselves created on November 5th, 1807.
  • 1814 : with the first abdication, the 114e is dissolved.
  • 1871 : in full conflict, the regiment is recreated starting from the 14 {{E}} Régiment of Walk, which itself had {been formed starting from the 4th battalions of the 55 {{E}}, 67 {{E}} and 100 {{E}} IH.
  • 1914 : to the mobilization it gives rise to the 314 {{E}} Régiment of Infantry
  • 1923 : the regiment is dissolved.
  • 1940 : the regiment is reconstituted on May 28th, 1940, improvised with the Camp of Courtine starting from various units in retirement (soldiers of 30 different deposits, surviving officers of the 13 {{E}} Zouaves and instructors of the Military academy of Saint-Maixent.
  • 1940 : the regiment is dissolved on June 18th, close to Limoges.
  • 1944 : October 1st, the 114e is recreated starting from the maquis of the area of Niort
  • 1945 : the regiment is dissolved on October 21st.
  • 1979 : it is once again recreated, like regiment of mobilization, but will be once again dissolved.

Revolution and Empire

  • 1795 : engagements in Spain (Tolosa, Pampelune)
  • 1798: The 114e becomes the 35e half-brigade.

It will fight in Spain, 30 battles, 11 seats, 7 attacks. 4 battles will be registered on its flag.

  • 1808:
    • Medina-LED-Rio-seco (July 3rd). The regiment belongs to division Musnier (114e and 115e IH, with the 1st regiment of the Legion of the Vistula).

From 1814 to 1870

In 1814, with the first abdication, the 114e is dissolved.

It is not recreated during the Hundred Days.

Second Empire

In 1871, in full conflict, the regiment is recreated starting from the 14th regiment of walk, which itself had been formed starting from the 4th battalions of the 55e, 67e and 100e IH.

It fights around Paris (Champigny, Le Bourget).

At the time of the commune of Paris, it fights the federate ones with Rueil, Bougival and Clamart.

From 1871 to 1914

  • 1873 : the regiment is scattered between Châtellerault, Montmédy and Paris.
  • 1874: 2 companies leave Châtellerault for Bressuire.
  • 1875: it now has 3 battalions in the Parisian forts and 4th with Parthenay).
  • 1877: it is gathered in Paris. But in April, it leaves for Saint-Maixent.
  • 1878: its deposit is with Parthenay, 2 battalions and the Staff with Saint-Maixent, 1 battalion in Paris and 2 companies with Thouars.
  • 1881: the 4th battalion, which quartered in Paris, leaves for Tunisia. It will be integrated into the 2nd regiment of walk.
  • 1895: a detachment of the 114e is in Madagascar (20 men).

First World War

With the mobilization, the regiment belongs to the 9 {{E}} CA, 17 {{E}} DI. With the 125 {{E}} IH, it composes the 34e brigade.
  • In December 1915, and until 1918, the regiment passes to 131e DI
It aligns 3 battalions.

1914

It belongs to the II {{E}} Armée, in Lorraine.
  • October 22nd, 1914 - April 2nd, 1915: it is on the Projecting one of Ypres.

1915

  • Ypres.

1916

  • May: Battle of Verdun (5 May 8th, coast 304),
    • In 72 hours, the regiment loses 130 men, 83 missings and 510 wounded.
  • July: champagne (Perthes, Tahure),
  • October: Battle of the Sum (Sailly-Saillisel),

1917

  • During the offensive of the Way of the Ladies, the regiment fights in Sapigneul, the extreme right-hand side of the French device.
  • August: Forest of Parroy (Is of Lunéville)

1918

  • April: Givesnes (western of Montdidier),
  • 11 June 13rd: Méry, Lataule. During these 3 days of combat, the regiment loses 650 men including 24 officers.
  • July at November: between Ham and St-Quentin.

During this conflict, the 114e regiment will have had 3937 killed.

Inter-war period

1923: the regiment is dissolved.

Second world war

The regiment is reconstituted on May 28th, 1940, improvised with the camp of Courtine starting from various units in retirement (soldiers of 30 different deposits, surviving officers of the 13th Zouaves and instructors of the Military academy of Saint-Maixent.

June 5th, 1940, it is thrown in the battle in the area of Rouen and is destroyed in 4 days.

The regiment is dissolved on June 18th, close to Limoges.

October 1st, 1944, the 114e is recreated starting from the maquis of the area of Niort. It has 3 battalions and aligns 2833 men. It takes part in the seat of the pocket of La Rochelle.

From 1945 to our days

In June 1945, the regiment passes to the 3 {{E}} DIA of the I {{Re}} Armée.

The regiment is dissolved on October 21st, 1945.

It is once again recreated in 1979, but will be once again dissolved.

Before its dissolution, it was the regiment support of ENSOA of Saint-Maixent.
