Events

The Middle East

  • Reign of Mas' ud Ier, sultan saljûqide of Rum (fine in 1155). It installs its capital with Konya.
  • Baudouin Ier of Jerusalem, after having made build the fortresses of the Valley-Moyse and of Montreal beyond the the Jordan, occupies the port of Aïlah on the Red Sea. It thus cuts the roads between the Syria and the Egypt, and obtains considerable resources by the taxation of the trade caravaneer.

  • Roger d' Antioche makes sure control of all the roads leading to Alep, occupies the principal fortresses which surround the city, and for lack of resistance, even manages to take a tax on each pilgrim who goes to Mecque.

Economy & company

  • In Italy, the communes gradually évincent the bishops in the legal and tax administration of the cities. With Bologna, the emperor recognizes at the city the right to keep half of the fines paid for infringement with the imperial ordinances.

Art & culture

  • the philosopher Abélard (1079 - 1142), Master of Héloïse, allures it and marries it in secrecy. Héloïse, which initially refused the marriage, leaves in Brittany to be confined of a child of Abélard baptized Astrolabe (1113). Abélard persuades Héloïse to pronounce its wishes with the abbey of Argenteuil. Fulbert, canon of the Cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris, the uncle d' Héloïse, is somewhat alleviated by their marriage, but ends up judging that Abélard had given up Héloïse with the abbey of Argenteuil and the fact of castrating. The couple separates then: Héloïse becomes abbess of the Paraclet, while Abélard is withdrawn with the abbey of Saint-Denis-in-France, to Paris.
  • Recasting of the Chronic of Last Times by the monk Sylvestre of the monastery Saint-Michel of Vydoubitch. Vladimir II Monomaque had withdrawn with the monastery of the Catacombes the care to write it.
