110e Congress of the United States

The 110e Congrès of the United States is the current American federal legislature. Its mandate began on January 3rd, 2007 at midday and will last two years exactly; its first session began on January 4th.

433 of the 435 representatives were elected on November 7th, 2006, and both last in December. With the Senate, 33 members out of 100 were elected at the same time, the others having been elected in 2002 and in 2004

The democratic are majority in the two rooms for the first time since the 103 {{E}} Congrès (1993-1995). Nancy Pelosi will be the first woman to occupy the functions of Speaker of the Room of the representatives. Keith Ellison, representative democratic of the Minnesota, is the first Moslem elected with the Congress, and the democrats Mazie Hirono, representative of Hawaii, and Hank Johnson, representative of Georgia, are the first elected Buddhists.

Two sessions must take place:

  • the first session began on January 4th, 2007;
  • the second session should begin on January 3rd, 2008 or in the following days.
