Beginning of the reign of Niels, king of the Denmark. It continues the work of his father Sven Estridsson. Denmark knows twenty-five years of peace. Niels organizes the central administration, names in the areas of the kinds of prefects ( ombudsmœnd ) and of the jarls to take care of the safety of the borders.
- the area of the Thjórardalr, in the south of the Iceland, colonized at the end of the 9th century, is devastated by the eruption of the volcano Helka. A score of farms was excavated by the archeologists. The excavations reveal the evolution house-long: single part with a central hearth at the beginning of colonization, then two parts distinct from the hall which plays the part of kitchen, finally more complex and refined residences, with room of the Masters, hall to the panelled walls, kitchen or workshop reserved to the women, dairy and contiguous hangar. The foundations are out of stone but the walls, very thick, are consisted peat, undoubtedly more insulating.
