10th stage of the Tour de France 2006

10th of the Tour de France 2006 was held the July 12th.

Profile

It is the first stage of high mountain of this edition. The course counts three collars indexed with the classification of the mountain:
  1. the collar of Osquich (6 km with 5,3%, 3rd category) to 500 m of altitude;
  2. the collar of Soudet (14.7 km with 7,3%, Except category) to 1540 m of altitude;
  3. the Collar of Marie-Blanque (9.3 km with 7,7%, 1st category) to 1035 m of altitude.

Moreover, 2 sprints of allowances are also envisaged:

  1. With kilometer 35,7 with Larceveau;
  2. With kilometer 74,5 with Laguinge.

Account

The first hour of race is very animated, with many attempts at escaped of which that of Sylvain Chavanel which succeeds in a long time holding the group at a few seconds before being made catch up with. It is finally after the first sprint of allowance that a group made up of about fifteen runners can take the broad one (Cédric Vasseur, Daniele Bennati, Juan Miguel Mercado, Cyril Dessel, Carlos Da Cruz, Matthieu Sprick, Christophe Rinero, Joost Posthuma, Jens Voigt, Inigo Landaluze, Inaki Isasi, etc).
In the collar of Soudet, Cyril Dessel and Juan Miguel Mercado from both go away, and cross the top together. In the descent, they are joined by 5 runners belonging to escaped from origin. But in the Collar of Marie-Blanque, Cyril Dessel and Juan Miguel Mercado set out again once again together. Only Inigo Landaluze manages to limit the variation on the 2 runners of head, but those will never leave it revenir.
It is finally Juan Miguel Mercado which carries it with the sprint with Pau, but it is Cyril Dessel which revêt the yellow jersey and the shirt with pea.
