  • June 9th: Henri IV crushes the revolt of Saxony to Langensalza;
  • By the Dictatus papæ , Gregoire VII proclaims the bishop Rome absolute chief of the Church;
  • Decree of Gregoire VII prohibiting the bishops from receiving their load of the hands of laic:
    • a collection of 27 proposals, the Dictatus papæ , defines the capacities of the pontiff and justifies his program: only the pope has, by Christ, an absolute and universal capacity. Master of the Church, it is with the top of all the laic princes whom it can deposit if they do not respect the rights of God and the Church. The decree is published by the princes, who see an attack with their authority there, neither in England, neither in Spain, nor in the Saint Empire. In France, the legate Hugues de Die can purify the episcopate, in spite of the opposition of Philippe Ier and of the nobility.
  • Revolt of the counts in England against William the Conqueror;
  • William the Conqueror pushes back a Danish fleet in front of the Yorkshire;
  • Colonization of the Black Forest at the instigation of the dukes of Zähringen;
  • Creation of the County of Holland, protected by Robert the Clippings, count of Flanders, relative of Dirk V of Holland;
