Mirecourt is a city of the North-East of the France, chief town of canton of the department of the the Vosges, in the Arrondissement of Neufchâteau.
Its inhabitants is called Mirecurtiens.
Geography
Mirecourt is located in the middle of the plain of the Vosges, with the confluence of the Madon and the Val of Arol .It is also a road crossroads, to 24 km of Vittel, 35 km of Épinal, 40 km of Neufchâteau and 48 km of Nancy. The access to the highway A31 is to 15 km.
History
Mirecourt was founded at the first millenium: Mercuri Curtis was dedicated by the Romans with the worship of Mercure. It was property of the counts of Toul.
It is in 960 that one finds a first hard copy of Mirecourt. This text gives a report on a donation of called Urson which makes donation of its field of Mirecourt (two métaieries and their dependences) to the abbey of Bouxières-with-Ladies.
In the current of the 13th century, it was property of the duke of Lorraine which granted letters of frankness to him. An act of 1284 notes the annexation of Mirecourt and its territory to the duchy of Lorraine (Ferry III). Mirecourt, chief town of important “the Bailliage de Vôge” was before a a whole city of great trade. In 1766, Mirecourt was annexed in France. The Stringed-instrument trade
The origin of the Lorraine stringed-instrument trade seems to go back to the voyages of the dukes of Lorraine in Italy, from where they brought back excellent musicians and violin makers at the end of the 16th century. It is particularly in Mirecourt that the stringed-instrument trade takes its rise; one counts 43 violin makers in 1635 and nearly 2000 to the 16th century. One produced at that time more: 80000 instruments per annum. They are true dynasties of violin makers and archetiers who make the fame of this Art among which one notes the Lupot, Ghent, Bernard, Jacquot, Nicolas, Mougenot, Vuillaume, of which Jean-Baptiste, called the French Stradivarius, Charotte, Apparut, Hilaire, Collin, Laberte, Magnié, Peccate, Bazin, Ouchard. The beginning of the 20th century sees disappearing good number of its prestigious workshops. However, in the years 1970 appears a revival thanks to the creation of the National school of stringed-instrument trade with MirecourtNowadays, the Lutherie always forms part of the traditions of the city, which remain thanks to the National school of stringed-instrument trade and with the Luthier S which still exert in the commune.
A municipal museum of the stringed-instrument trade makes it possible to look further into its knowledge of this craft industry of Article As pictorial works one will note a Portrait of a musician paints by the Belgian painter François-Joseph Navez, gone back to 1836 and the photographic reproduction of a Portrait of the violin maker Nicolas Lupot , by Henriette Lorimier, gone back to 1805, the original was deposited by the municipal museum of the stringed-instrument trade to the Cité of the music of Paris.
Lace
Art with the spindles would go up at the time Egyptian woman. In the middle of the 20th century, it remains in Mirecourt only some lacemakers who taught this art, thus ensuring the maintenance of this activity. Today, thanks to a dynamic association with more than 140 participants, Mirecourt found his international repute with its lace with the spindles of an incomparable smoothness, until the creation of Promotion association and Revival of lace. Thanks to this one lace reappears in Mirecourt, one there exempts courses and organizes permanent exposures, with lacemakers with work at the House of Lace.

The Communauté of communes of the Country of Mirecourt gathers 8 communes cumulating 8 093 inhabitants: Ambacourt, Domvallier, Juvaincourt, Mirecourt , Poussay, Puzieux, Ramecourt and Thiraucourt.

CHS of Ravenel: the departmental psychiatric hospital of the Vosges is located on the commune of Mirecourt. He is still to date the first employer of the commune (approximately a thousand of paid).
