- the Fatimides finance a rebellion against the caliph Sunnite in Iraq.

North Africa
- Yussuf Ibn Tashfine succeeds his/her uncle Ibn Yasin with the head of the Almoravides. It shares the capacity with Abou Bakr, father of Ibn Yacine which, share to repress a revolt in the South soon. Ibn Tashfine launches out to the conquest of the Morocco (1059 - 1082). It advances until Algiers (1059).
Europe
- April 13rd: Bubble of the Pope Nicolas II reserving the right to only elect the pope with the cardinal.
- the synod of Lateran makes hold to the only cardinals the right to elect the popes. Their choice will be ratified by acclamation of the clergy and the Roman people (decree of April 1059). No priest will be able to receive a church of the hands of laic. The Simony and the Nicolaïsme (disorder of manners) are condemned. The German Church reacts by pronouncing a sentence of Excommunication against the pope. The death of Nicolas II in 1061 avoids the Schisme.
- May 23rd: Sacring by anticipation of the prince Philippe 7 years old to Rheims.
- August 23rd: With Melfi, the Normands confirm the sovereignty of the Pape on the Italy and the Sicily and are established to with it with its support in the South and on the island; Robert Guiscard becomes thus duke of Apulie, Calabria and Sicily (fine in 1085).
- November 24th: Beginning of the reign of Constantin X Doukas, Byzantine Emperor (fine in 1067). It succeeds Isaac I {{er}} Comnène of which he was the minister and who abdicates in his favor following the hostility of the clergy and the imperial bureaucracy in his connection.
- the advent of Constantin X marks the triumph of the bureaucracy on the provincial and military aristocracy.
- Its policy weakens the defense of the borders and allows the Seldjoukides, Hungarian, Petchenègues and Normands to tear off several provinces of the empire and to devastate vast territories.
