.pst

See also: PST

.pst belongs to the Liste of extensions of files. It is the extension associated with the file containing the messages in certain software Windows. This extension pst means “ Personnal storage Table ”, or “table of personal storage” in French.

When one uses Microsoft Exchange Server, the messages, the calendar, and the other elements are sent and stored on the waiter. If one does not use Exchange Server, the messages, calendars, and other elements are sent and stored locally in a file personal repertory having the extension .pst.

When messages, appointments, spots, and entries of newspaper are created, Microsoft Outlook safeguard information in a file .pst on the computer.

The personal file .pst is same format in Microsoft Exchange Client, Windows Messaging, Microsoft Outlook 97, Microsoft Outlook 98, Microsoft Outlook 2000 and Microsoft Outlook 2002. The format changed since Outlook 2003 to allow the use of the data Unicode, and thus the file .pst cannot be open any more by a previous model of Courielleur which uses only the coding of the text in format ANSI.

In Outlook 2000, the maximum size of the file .pst was limited to 2Go (makes 1,933 of them Go to be precise , ). If this limit is reached or that a new message exceeds the limit, the recovery of the file .pst can become difficult, even impossible. Outlook 2003 increases this limit with 20 safe Go for accounts HTTP and IMAP limited to 2 Go.

The files .pst can be easily corrupted, in particular if they are close to their maximum size. Microsoft provides a tool for repair called scanpst.exe, which always does not function.
