Spring: Athens refuses the advantageous offer of Mardonios, transmitted by the king Alexandre of Macedonia, to pass on the side Perse, at the instigation of Aristide. The Athenians await the arrival of Péloponnésiens, who do not intervene, anxious to strengthen the Isthme of Corinth.

June: Mardonios, general Persian, lance an offensive on the Attic then on the Béotie with its 300 000 soldiers. It takes again Athens, deserted once again by its inhabitants, and renews its offers of negotiations. Athens calls for the aid Sparte which it is reproached its inertia whereas Mardonios went on the Attique. Sparte hesitates but the prospect for an alliance, between Persians and Athens, which would be turned over against it finally decides to intervene.
- Mardonios is folded up in Béotie. The allied Greek forces also meet in Béotie, and lend a collective oath (oath of Foundations). After ten days of face to face, the confrontation takes place with Platée, on the initiative of Persians, in spite of the councils of Artabaze which recommended folds towards Thèbes.
- the Greek under the command of Aristide the Juste and Pausanias demolish the Perse S with the Bataille of Foundations. Mardonios is killed in the battle. The spoils are enormous because Mardonios had the guard of all the luggage of Xerxès Ier. The Persian army is massacred, and only Artabaze manages to regain Asia. The Ionie revolts again.
- Demolished naval Persian with the course Mycale (Ionie) in front of the Greeks ordered by the king Spartan Léotychidas II and by the Athenian Xanthippos. This victory ruins the Persian influence on the Ionie.
- Considering the countryside finished the Spartans return to the Peloponnese but the Athenians, followed by the Ioniens, release Samos, shingle towards the Hellespont to break the bridges there and put the seat, and take the town of Sestos (in Chersonèse of Thrace). Their objective is to make sure a base of action against the kingdom achéménide. Between this series of victories over Persians and the victories of the Greeks of Large Greece over the Carthaginian in -480 and over the Étrusques in -474 we attend the beginning of the apogee of Greek civilization.
- the revolts of Potidée and Olynthe are repressed by Artabaze.
