- June: General rising of the Eubée (except Carystos) against Athens, following the defeat of Coronée. At the time when Périclès intervenes with an important army a vast coalition is formed to support the defection of Mégare and devastates the plain of Éleusis. Périclès reacts skilfully while separating united, certainly by buying the king de Sparte Pleistoanax, then turning over in Eubée by signing treaties with the various cities specifying their rights and their obligations towards Athens. Two clérouquies are created with Chalcis and Oréos to maintain the island in obedience.

Peace Thirty Years, negotiated by Callias, concluded between Athenian and Spartans: recognition of each hegemonic system by the other, but at the price, for the Athenians, of a flashback (they lose the Achaïe and Mégare and leave hegemony on the Béotie with Thèbes). Sparte and Athens mutually avoid discharging their vassal. Only the still independent cities pouvent to be included there. This agreement, certe precarious (it will last actually 14 years), carries, under the government of Périclès, Athens with its apogee.
