  • With Rome, Consul At of Appius Claudius c.f. Caudex, Mr. Fulvius Q.f. Flaccus.
  • the cities Etruscan S in the South of the Arno are definitively attached to Rome.
  • Carthage occupies the Sicily. Beginning of the First Punic War (fine in -241).
    • Roman Intervention in Metz-native Sicily with the call of , which causes the first Punic War. The Mamertin S, brigands of Italic origin who seized Messine, tracked at the same time by Hiéron II of Syracuse and by the Carthaginians, call upon Rome. The Roman Sénat hesitates, but the people decide forwarding.
    • Seat of Metz-native by Rome (end in -263). The army of the consul Appius Claudius Caudex crosses the strait, frees Messine whose Carthaginian garrison had evacuated the citadel, and constrained Hiéron to sign a treaty of alliance with it. After having taken foot in Sicily, Rome does not intend to give up the island and is found vis-a-vis Carthage.
  • Destruction of Volsinies (see -265).

  • the first Punic War puts for the first time at the catches of the armies and the considerable fleets gathering until 70  000 men.
  • the territory of Rome extends on 26  000 km ² (292  000 Roman citizens). That of the countries combined on 109  000 km ² (750  000 inhabitants). The town of Rome counts 150  000 inhabitants approximately.
  • the first combat of Gladiateur S make their appearance with Rome on the Forum Boarium.
