Events

Roman world

  • the powerful orator L. Calpurnius Piso Frugi makes pass a law creating of the permanent courts ( quaestiones perpetuae ) to judge the crimes of extortion of money of the magistrates in province ( of pecunis repetundis ). Senate decides that their jurys would be exclusively made up senators, which causes the reaction of the equestrian class, directly concerned in his community activity. Other permanent courts will be created thereafter: assassinations and poisonings ( of sicariis and veneficis ), aspires to ( of ambitu ), peculation ( of peculata ).

  • Beginning of the Third Punic War (fine in -146).
    • Rome requires that Carthage be destroyed and is rebuilt inside the grounds. The consuls L. Marcius Censorius and Mr. Manilius carry out the war until in -148. They put the seat in front of Carthage which resists savagely, while under the command of Hasdrubal, an army of 80  000 men concentrates inside, with the camp of Néphéris.

World hellenistic

  • Andriscus, an adventurer who took the name of Philippe and says son of Persée, raises the Macedonia against Rome. It makes alliance with Carthage, beats the local forces which try to repress the movement and invades even the Thessalie. A Roman army under the orders of the praetor Q. Caecilius Metellus overcomes Andriscos and the fact captive with the second battle of Pydna (-148).

  • Jonathan is named governor of Judaea.

Art & culture

  • Invention with Pergame of the “ pergamena ” (Parchment) to replace the papyrus whose king of Egypt had prohibited export.
