This page relates to the year 1 av. J. - C. of the Calendrier Julien, i.e. the last year before the Christian era.
For the number -1 , to see the article -1 (number)
However, in the scientific computations, based on the calendar UTC, year 1 is noted 0 UTC , and the former years are noted with negative numbers UTC . There thus exists a variation of 1 between the absolute value of negative or null years UTC of scientific use on the one hand, and the years of the Julien calendar of historical use on the other hand.
It is strongly disadvised using the numbers negative or null without precision of the applicable calendar, as well for the historical references as scientific, because they comprise an ambiguity on the actual value. For the very old years however, former to, i.e. former to II, the references (pre) historical are generally not ambiguous because these dates are not known with a sufficient precision, and one often finds these years noted with negative numbers (rather than positive with ) ; it is only about one simplification of writing, one or the other year being equivalent.
In the Wikipédia encyclopedia, no year zero is used, and the possible negative years mean the of the same year absolute value (unless otherwise specified explicit of calendar UTC).
