The Astéroïde (4923) Clarke was thus baptized in homage to Arthur C. Clarke (born in 1917), writer of Science-fiction.

Of his own consent, the author would have liked to see himself allotting the asteroid carrying the number 2001, in reference to his major work, but this one was already allotted to Albert Einstein.
