The Astéroïde (1462) Zamenhof was discovered the February 6th 1938 by Yrjö Väisälä.

This asteroid was thus baptized in homage to Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof (1859 - 1917), initiator of the built Langue Esperanto.
Its diameter is of 25,82 km.

Its temporary designation was 1938 CA .

In the culture espérantophone, it is quoted as being one of the Zamenhof/Esperanto Objektoj (objects bearing the name of Zamenhof or Esperanto) most distant from us.
