Origin

The hiragana む and the katakana ム come, via the Man' yōgana, of the Kanji 武 and 牟, respectively.

Romanisation

According to the systems of romanisation Hepburn, Kunrei and Nihon, む and ム romanisent themselves in “driven”.

Layout

The hiragana む is written in three features:
  1. Milks horizontal.
  2. Milks vertical, forming a loop on the left with semi-course before setting out again with the vertical, then becoming horizontal with a small vertical hook at the end of the feature.
  3. Milks diagonal first feature on the right.

The katakana ム is written in two features:

  1. Milks diagonal, traced from right to left, then horizontal.
