つ in Hiragana or ツ in Katakana is two kana, characters Japanese, which represent same the more. They are marked and occupy the 18th place of their respective spelling-book, between ち and て.
Origin
The hiragana つ and the katakana ツ come, via the
Man' yōgana, of the
Kanji 川.
Alternatives
Small the hiragana っ, named
sokuon (促音), indicates a consonant geminated, which can appear only before a fricative
or a
Glottal stop; it is represented in rōmaji by doubling the consonant which follows it; in abstract writings, it is also used at the end of the word to indicate a hard or chopped articulation, to express anger or agitation for example. Small the katakana ッ fills the same office.
The katakana ツ can be combined in order to note foreign words using of the sounds which do not exist in the Japanese language:
- ツァ: “tsa”
- ツィ: “tsi”
- ツェ: “tse”
- ツォ: “tso”
Diacritic
つ and ツ can be diacrities to form づ and ヅ and to represent the sound or.
However, in the pronunciation of modern Japanese, the pronunciation of づ is replaced by that of ず; The writing づ is used very seldom.
Romanisation
These kanas differently romanisent according to the systems:

The katakana ツ is written in three features:
- Small diagonal feature, from left to right and upwards.
- Small feature parallel with the first, but located a little low on the left.
- Milks diagonal, slightly curved, traced upwards and from left to right.
This C-W communication is very similar to that of シ: only the direction and the height of the layout of the last feature are different.
