Əbülfəz Elçibəy

Əbülfəz Qədirqulu oğlu Elçibəy (in Azerbaijani; in Russian: АбульфазЭльчибей, transliterated in Aboulfaz Eltchibeï , the form most often employed) (June 7th 1938 - August 22nd 2000) was an Azeri politician , old president d' Azerbaïdjan between June 1992 and June 1993.

Its family name was in the beginning “Əliyev”, but it was not related with Heydər and İlham Əliyev. At the time of the Soviet era, Əbülfəz Əliyev undertakes anticommunists activities and changes his name into Əbülfəz Elçibəy.

He is elected president the June 7th 1992 as a candidate of the Popular front of Azerbaïdjan and with 64% of the voices. He becomes the first president not-Communist of Azerbaïdjan. The country is then losing the war which opposes it to the Arménie on the Haut-Karabagh. Elçibəy returns powerful the ordering military one Surət Hüseynov in its area of Gandja by reproaching him its military failures.

This decision does not improve the Azeri military results and Elçibəy must even issue the state of emergency the April 3rd 1993 after the catch of the Azeri city of Kelbadjar by the Armenian troops.

An alliance is formed between Heydər Əliyev, the president of the Azeri Parliament and former general of the the KGB and Surət Hüseynov for évincer Elçibəy. The arrival of the militiamans armed with Surət Hüseynov in the capital Bakou the constrained one to flee in exile the June 7th 1993 in its area of the Nakhitchevan and to give up the presidency with Heydər Əliyev, Hüseynov obtaining to the station of Prime Minister.

In 1997, Elçibəy returns to Bakou to take again its political career and starts by criticizing president Əliyev. He is judged in 1999 to have denounced the support that Əliyev brings to the Parti workers of Kurdistan, but the lawsuit ends in a withdrawal of case. Elçibəy leaves the country to go to die in Ankara, in Turkey of a cancer of the prostate. Elçibəy always was near politically to Turkey.
