Żurrieq
Żurrieq (or Iż-Żurrieq) is one of older villages of Malta, with a population of 9816 inhabitants. It is located at the south of Malta.
Żurrieq belongs to the Fifth District and vote to elect the local council every three years. The Mayor of Żurrieq is besides one of the seven members of this council.
One finds in Żurrieq of the ruins dating from the Bronze Age, as well as Roman structures. The buildings illustrate various colonizations of the island: Phenicians, Carthaginian, Romans, Greeks.
Żurrieq has a deep catholic tradition: every year, of the sumptuous festivals in the honor of Sainte Catherine is organized, gathering the local groups of music, with fires of artifices, mural decorations, electric garlands, which do of them one of most expensive of the island.
