Środa Wielkopolska

Środa Wielkopolska is a city of the west of the Poland, to 35 km in the south-east of Poznan and counts 21.000 inhabitants.

History

The city is located at a crossroads of major trade route. Sroda was thus founded by the development of a fair which undoubtedly took place Wednesday (Polish Sroda).

Sroda would have been founded in the neighborhoods of 1260. In 1331 the city is burned by the Teutoniques Knights. At the 15th century it was among the most important cities of Large the Poland (Wielkopolska). At the 18th century, a corporation of Meunerie is created. Today still, it has a notable influence in the area.

Economy

The economic main activities turn to agriculture, flour-milling, dairy textile industry, and also the oil refining.

Community life develops around arts, of the sports, the failures, philately, etc

The library is very attended. A foundation was created in 1991 to make known the past of Wielkopolska and to develop the Museum of the Earth of Koszuty.

The Harvest festivals and those of Midsummer's Day constitute two key periods of animation of the city.
