Œnopide de Chios

Œnopide de Chios

Œnopide de Chios (middle of the 5th century before J.C.) was a Mathématicien and Greek astronomer . He was pythagorician.

It is estimated that its work is compilations of Egyptian Science: the own movement of the Sun and obliqueness of the Ecliptic .

Mediating

One allots the construction to him mediator of a segment like right-hand side uniting the points of intersection of two of the same circles ray centered on the ends of this segment.

Carryforward of an angle

Eudème, quoted by Proclus, allotted to Œnopide Tap-holes, the discovery of the problem relating to the proposal 23 of book I of Euclide:

“On a given line, and in a point given on this line, to build an angle equal to a given angle. ”

(History of mathematics - Colette - 1973).

To defer the angle of O out of I, with the rule and the compass,

to trace two of the same circles radius centered out of O and I,

to trace the points has and B intersection on the sides of the angle with the circle of center O,

to choose a point C on the circle of center I,

and to defer length AB by tracing a third circle of center C which cuts the second circle in D (and in another point).

The angle \ widehat {CID} is equal to the angle \ widehat {AOB} .
